MARIA CASIRAGHI

HISTORIAN, MARIA CORBALAN BESPOKE TOURS

BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA

Meet Maria, our resident historian and your guide to all things Eva Perón. Maria is an accomplished journalist, writer, and poet who has written a total of 11 books (wow!!).

In 2003, Maria began working as a tour guide so she could have a freelance gig while she focused on her writing. She loved it so much that she never stopped.

During our time in Buenos Aires, Maria is taking us on a fascinating feminist historical tour centered on the famous Eva Perón. She’ll tell us stories about her life, while showing us important landmarks around Buenos Aires. It’s a can’t miss experience!

I admire her courage and her determination to devote herself, her entire life, to one cause in which she believed

LEARN MORE ABOUT MARIA

1. HAVE YOU ALWAYS LED TOURS? IF SO, WHAT KEEPS YOU INSPIRED? IF NOT, WHAT WERE YOU DOING BEFORE?

I have been leading tours since 2003, I started by chance because at first I just wanted to try a freelance job that could give me enough spare time to keep writing. I had been traveling in Patagonia for a while as a journalist and had published two books about it. But once I started, I realized that it was more than that, I loved guiding, meeting people from different countries, and I realized it was also a way to be able to travel. So, since then I have alternated my time between guiding and writing, I’ve published 11 books up to now (poetry, fiction and travel books).

2. IF YOUR BEST FRIEND WAS VISITING BUENOS AIRES FOR THE FIRST TIME, WHERE WOULD YOU TAKE THEM FIRST?

San Telmo!

3. IN 3 WORDS, HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE EVA PERON? WHAT IS IT ABOUT HER THAT INSPIRES YOU MOST?

Brave, passionate and determined. I admire her courage and her determination to devote herself, her entire life, to one cause in which she believed. She did not mind what society said about her, she just went ahead with her cause and did so much for the humblest people in the country, especially women!

4. WHO ARE 3 PEOPLE YOU WOULD LOVE TO HOST ON A TOUR?

Lila Downs, Alice Munro and Simone de Beauvoir (if I could travel back in time).

5. DO YOU HAVE ANY HOBBIES?

I love trekking, swimming, and traveling (of course)!

6. DO YOU HAVE A PIECE OF ADVICE FOR SOLO FEMALE TRAVELERS?

Open all your senses to the world, experience, don’t judge people or circumstances. Especially don’t be afraid of being yourself!
