SANTIAGO MATATLAN, MEXICO

Doña Hortensia and her two daughters, Lidia and Nallely, founded Desde la Eternidad, one of the only female-led mezcal distilleries in Oaxaca. Doña Hortensia’s husband passed away of COVID in 2020, leaving the 5th-generation family business in her hands. Since taking the reins, she and her daughters have grown the business significantly, forming a collaboration with women-owned Doña Vega Mezcal to also produce and bottle their mezcal.

Recently, Lidia branched out on her own and now runs the new brand, Lastho Dob, with the same family values. Her palenque is located in Santiago Matatlán – a small town just outside of Oaxaca. On our Oaxaca trips, we spend a magical day with Lidia at her distillery.
