HORNAFJÖRÐUR, ICELAND

Hanna Dís Whitehead is an Icelandic artist and designer and a graduate of Design Academy Eindhoven (2011). Her multidisciplinary practice moves between art, design, and craft, exploring material, colour, technique, and storytelling.

Working across ceramics, wood, textiles, glass, furniture, felting, and straw marquetry, Hanna develops her own techniques through slow, hands-on experimentation. Her work is deeply connected to the Icelandic landscape and its seasonal rhythms, often incorporating locally sourced, harvested, reclaimed, and hand-dyed materials.

Through craftsmanship, she transforms humble resources into tactile, luminous objects that balance roughness and softness, structure and spontaneity. Her work celebrates material honesty, the presence of the hand, and the evolving relationship between maker, material, and viewer.
