LEARN MORE ABOUT ANAIS

1. WHERE IS YOUR FAVORITE PLACE TO TRAVEL WITHIN MEXICO? WHY?

Hands down Oaxaca. Here you find colors, people's warmth, an art scene, history, and traditions everywhere, and of course, you can eat some of the best food out of anywhere in the country. Each one of the different regions of Oaxaca offers a very diverse world of ingredients, techniques and dishes you can't find anywhere else in the country.

2. WHAT IS THE MOST REWARDING/INSPIRING PART ABOUT LEADING YOUR FOOD TOURS?

To value and cherish our history, ingredients, and quirky traditions. Working with foreigners has given me the chance to see our country through an outsider's perspective, and this has made my love for Mexico grow every day. It has also made my desire to share it with the whole world grow as well!

3. WHAT IS ONE OF THE MOST MEMORABLE MOMENTS YOU HAVE HAD WITH ONE OF YOUR TOURS?

I once had a group of 7 girls from the US, they were so smart and so much fun. They were asking really intelligent and deep questions about our culture and they were having fun with each one of the vendors we visited. The tour ended up being a little over an hour longer than usual, filled with lots of silly dancing, jokes and great Boomerangs!

4. A PIECE OF ADVIE FOR SOLO FEMALE TRAVELERS?

Don't be afraid to walk around and explore on your own, my trick is always to look like I know perfectly where I'm going. Trust your gut at all times - if you feel like you're going into a place where you're not supposed to be, you're probably right. Just turn around and head to a place where you feel more comfortable.

5. WHERE IN THE WORLD WOULD YOU LOVE TO VISIT FOR THE FOOD THERE?

I'm dying to visit Malaysia. The street food, the floating markets and the night markets seem like my absolute heaven. I just want to go and eat my way around!

6. WHY IS IT SO IMPORTANT FOR SU TO TRAVEL TO NEW PLACES AND TRY NEW FOODS? WOULD YOU SAY THAT TRAVEL PROMOTES PRESERVATION OF LOCAL CULTURES AND TRADITIONS?

Traveling makes you aware of how other people live and see life. If you do it right, you can change your own perspective and come to appreciate the differences and similarities that distinct cultures may have. It is something that opens your mind and changes you from within.
