Design Hotel: Ion City Hotel in Reykjavík, Iceland

Our top sleep pick in Reykjavík? The newly opened Ion City Hotel. It’s perfectly located on Reykjavík's main drag and has one of our favorite restaurants Sumac in the bottom.

While all the rooms are beautifully designed at Ion City Hotel, the stunning penthouse suite is the icing on the cake. The elevator opens right up into your own living room with panoramic windows looking out to the Reykjavik cityscape. The funky furniture and wall hangings are all handcrafted by local Icelandic artists.

We love when hotels choose comfort over perfectly creased bed linens. Ion City had the coziest beds to wake up in.

If you can splurge on the penthouse suite (lucky you!), you’ll have your very own bar. And guess what? You can add a personal bartender to your tab.

In every room you’ll find cozy details hidden like little surprises. Think: plush robes, bath salts, a Nespresso machine, and heated towels.

Pro tip: Ask for a room facing the back of the building if you're a light sleeper. The main road can get a little noisy at night.
